Amar Mukherjee

Award Recipient

Featured ImageAmar Mukherjee (a.k.a. Amar Mukhopadhyay) received his D. Phil. (Sc.) degree from the University of Calcutta in 1963. He took a faculty position at Princeton University in 1963-64 with the Electrical Engineering Department and then joined the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai in 1964-66. He later joined University of Iowa during 1969-79 where he became a full Professor in 1973. He moved to University of Central Florida as a Professor of Computer Science in 1979 and is now with the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He held Visiting Scientist/Professor positions with several universities, institutions and laboratories world wide; Stanford Research Institute(1968), IBM Research Center(1985), National Science Foundation (1994,1995) Hiroshima University(1982), LAAS, France(1974), GMD, Germany(1974), Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland (1990), Indian Institutes of Technology, (Kharagpur, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi), Jadavpur University and University of Calcutta(1989-90) and the Indian Statistical Institute (1982,1999), Technical University of Darmstadt and University of Karlsruhe(Germany). Dr. Mukherjee was a Fulbright Scholar (1989) and obtained a TOKTEN award from the Government of India. Professor Amar Mukherjee has pursued a distinguished career of teaching and research. His research included switching theory and logic design, cellular automata, graph theory, VLSI design, hardware algorithm for string matching and data compression, compressed domain pattern matching, search and retrieval, and bioinformatics.
