AI and Digital Transformation: Industry Driven Partnerships

Digital Transformation is a process that aims to leverage technology to optimize business processes and deliver them digitally. It is about our daily tasks performed and offered seamlessly in a digital world. The continued growth in the digitization of data has created an immense wealth of information. With the data explosion, Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques are becoming the tools of choice to transform them into knowledge and actionable investments.  Ironically, COVID-19 challenges have expedited the need for digital transformation, and many businesses are struggling to catch up. Processes, tools, and people are the key requirements to achieve business goals and they all need to be addressed.   Processes have traditionally been lengthy and designed for humans to handle. With digitization, new needs have evolved, and new approaches and flows need to be considered. Digital tools to help redesign processes exist and can be leveraged with the appropriate use of AI.  Tools and technologies enabling DT include Artificial Intelligence UL e, High-Speed Networking, Software Automation, Internet of Things (IoT), and Cybersecurity. Academic institutions and research centers have the technical knowledge related to emerging tools and techniques and when teamed up with industry can fuel innovation.   People are the decision makers, process approvers and final users. They all need to be prepared to use new tools and new approaches to think about the business.  In this presentation, we will highlight some tools and techniques that are enablers for implementing Artificial Intelligence practices through a Digital Transformation process. We will also discuss case studies of different approaches used by businesses and universities to address these growing needs. At the University of Louisville, we had many experiences in creating innovation partnerships in various domains and will share their highlights.

The Impact of Digital Transformation on Cybersecurity; Challenges, Technologies, and Policies

Advances in information technologies have accelerated the adoption of many digital technologies with data becoming readily available.  This is creating increased demand on applications of Artificial Intelligence to leverage the, now available, data to improve productivity, efficiency, profitability, and user experience. This trend is now recognized as the “Digital Transformation” of industry, government, and services and has become more apparent when the Covid pandemic demanded remote work and services.  An integrated approach to Digital Transformation requires a more comprehensive overview and a pause to simplistic digitization efforts. The main drivers for successful transformation are people, technologies, and processes. Each of these drivers will be discussed and experiences shared.

Artificial Intelligence Solutions for Health and Wellness

The recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) including the use of data science and techniques such as deep learning are having a great impact on Healthcare and on an understanding of wellness. The use of AI as related to Healthcare will be discussed in the context of Health 4.0. Examples include Applications to predictive analytics for patient care, medical image analysis and annotation, and document and social media text analysis. This work is part of a larger project to have integrated a variety of information sources from clinical data, social media, and professional literature to better guide our understanding of health and wellness. The AI techniques used include Deep Learning, NLP, and ANN and are applied to doctors’ annotation and public sentiment combined with medical literature. Imaging work has significantly reduced the effort of medical professionals to allow them to focus on the patient. We shall also discuss emerging topics as they relate to e-health, such as Industry 4.0, Precision Medicine, Mobile Health, 5G, Big Data, and Cyber-physical systems.
