Key Dates
Conference Date: 18 April 2026 - Co-located with the 48th IEEE/ACM International Conferenceon Software Engineering (ICSE 2026) atRio de Janeiro, Brazil
The Summit will be a one-day in-person (NOT hybrid) workshop on Saturday, 18 Apr 2026. Authors of accepted talk summaries and extended abstracts are required to register and attend the Summit in person.
The Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK Guide), published by the IEEE Computer Society (IEEE CS), reflects the current state of generally accepted, Consensus driven knowledge and skills derived from the interaction between software engineering (SE) theory and practice. There are numerous purposes for using the SWEBOK Guide, including guiding education and training, facilitating professional development, and standardizing practices.
This Summit is a premier industry-focused event, bringing together practitioners, researchers, and educators from the SE communities to collaborate, share experiences and challenges, and provide future research directions on the body of knowledge, skills, and competencies required for current and future SE professionals, as well as related professional training and certifications. The Summit also encourages the use of the SWEBOK Guide to address SE-specific challenges. Furthermore, the results of the Summit will provide valuable input to further the evolution of the SWEBOK Guide, as well as related programs and products, such as SE Certifications.
The 1st IEEE SWEBOK Summit was successfully held in Ottawa as part of ICSE 2025. The 1st Summit covered a variety of topics, including the following: Introduction of SWEBOK Guide V4.0, industry adoption and application, professional development and job, education and curriculum, standards and other related knowledge and skills frameworks, and future of SWEBOK (Guide). The 2nd Summit is expected to address a similar broad spectrum of issues in the software engineering body of knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as related professional training and certifications.
The Summit will be a one-day in-person workshop featuring selected presentations on SE bodies of knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and related topics. You are invited to participate and submit your presentation proposals to the Summit. In addition to selected presentations, the Summit will have keynotes, panels, and invited tutorials. The Summit's areas of interest include (but are not limited to) the following topics:
The Summit invites submissions of extended abstracts (limited to 5 pages) that describe a single work addressing a topic relevant to the Summit. The Summit also invites submissions of a 1-page short talk summary. Submitted summaries and extended abstracts will be reviewed by a committee of renowned experts in the field and will be shortlisted. Authors of accepted talk summaries and extended abstracts are required to register and attend the Summit in person for oral presentation(s).
Extended abstracts will be included in the Summit proceedings; however, talk summaries will not be included. Accepted extended abstracts are exempt from APC charges. Submissions use the official ACM Primary Article Template, as can be obtained from the ACM Proceedings Template page.
Submissions must strictly conform to the ACM conference proceedings formatting instructions.Submission Link: https://icse2026-swebok.hotcrp.com/
In addition to submitting your paper to SWEBOK Summit 2026, you are also encouraged to upload the data related to your paper to IEEE DataPort. IEEE DataPort is IEEE's data platform that supports the storage and publishing of datasets while also providing access to thousands of research datasets. Uploading your dataset to IEEE DataPort will strengthen your paper and will support research reproducibility. Your paper and the dataset can be linked, providing a good opportunity for you to increase the number of citations you receive. Data can be uploaded to IEEE DataPort prior to submitting your paper or concurrent with the paper submission.
Authors of accepted talk summaries and extended abstracts are required to register and attend the Summit in person for oral presentation(s). Non-authors can also participate in the Summit by registering themselves via the ICSE's registration site.
